The picture above shows the old pumping station and the ends of Thorncliffe Rows.
The Pond was created to provide more water for the Thorncliffe Ironworks.
This was fed by Charlton Brook and the " Charlton Brook Dam " was built as storage for more water when needed. This was released by a valve at the tunnel end of the wier.
